How to make the most of your free time now you are retired
After diligently working to pay the bills and ensuring your family is cared for, and your children are looked after for more years than you care to count, retirement is finally here.
Now is the time to get out there and live every day to the maximum, enjoy time alone in the garden, and generally do what you want and when you want to do it. That said, here is how to make the most of your free time now you are retired.
Spend Time Discovering What Fulfilment Means to You
First and foremost, now that you can enjoy things that provide you happiness and fulfilment, it becomes essential to ascertain what those terms mean to you.
There is a wide plethora of ways to do this, with just some ideas and inspiration being:
Consider starting therapy sessions to cleanse your mind for the future. Look into the Japanese practice of ‘Ikigai’. Download an application based on mindfulness and meditation. Write down each day what made you truly happy at that moment. In addition, take the time to look back on your life this far and try to pinpoint times when you felt truly connected to who you were and what you were doing.
Consider Relocating
Whether you live alone, with your husband or wife, or with friends who share the same interests and hobbies as you, it may well be the case that you are no longer happy in your current home for one or more reasons. However, there is another option.
Prestigious and reputable assisted living programs in La Jolla are some of the most fulfilling and genuinely engaging, both in an intellectual and physical sense, ways of making the most of your retirement without worrying about mundane household maintenance and upkeep.
Focus on Your Physical Health
As crucial as solid levels of emotional health and well-being are for any person of any age, it is also exceedingly vital to ensure you are in ‘fine fettle’ when it comes to your physical health.
Especially as you may have gone straight from an active job on your feet for eight hours a day to not needing to rise from your bed till after midday, making sure you are exercising, eating enough fruit and vegetables, drinking enough water, and having regular doctor check-ups.
Write a Plan
Finally, whether you are someone who has always enjoyed a good list before you embark upon a new task or project or have always kept everything you need to do and all appointments safely recorded in your brain, writing a comprehensive retirement plan can pay huge dividends.
Not only will this help maximize the hours of each day, but it will also help you set goals for yourself, both for the short-term and way into the future and push yourself out of your comfort zone to try new things.
