Douglas Motorsport’s time in British F3 so far

Douglas Motorsport have been one of the most successful outfits in the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship since the series’ inception in 2016.

The team have taken over 50 podiums and 12 wins at time of writing, and have consistently run at the sharp end of the championship.

The series began as the BRDC British Formula 4 Championship in 2013. With results from this iteration factored in, the Corby-based team have taken 20 wins and 79 podium finishes.

Prior even to that, Douglas were front-runners in the Ginetta Junior series, with two Teams’ Championships, two Rookie Cup titles, a Winter Series win and two runner-up spots in the Drivers’ Championship.

Since 2016, they have taken wins with Tom Randle (2), Enaam Ahmed, Jordan Cane (3), Jamie Chadwick, Kiern Jewiss (2), Benjamin Pedersen and Ulysse de Pauw (2).

They are one of few teams who have won at least one race in every British F3 season they’ve competed in, and have brought drivers to the brink of the Drivers’ Championship in the last two seasons.

Kiern Jewiss was still in the title fight heading into the final round of the 2019 season at Donington Park, which hosts the Championship this weekend (10/11 July), before Clément Novalak took top honours for Carlin.

He has since moved on to compete in Porsche Carrera Cup GB with Team Parker Racing, after a part-time campaign in British F3 last season with Douglas which yielded a win in the first race at Oulton Park.

Ulysse de Pauw was in the conversation throughout 2020, taking wins at Donington and Snetterton before an incident at the season finale at Silverstone put paid to the Belgian driver’s title bid.

After finishing just three points behind Louis Foster (now competing in EuroFormula Open), de Pauw now competes in the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup with CMR, sharing a Bentley Continental GT3 with Pierre Alexandre Jean.

Which brings us to 2021, where the team has put together an intriguing driver line-up.

Reema Juffali is the first female racing driver ever to come out of Saudi Arabia; her stock has risen quickly having only started racing in 2018 in the TD86 Cup and the MRF Challenge.

She took 13th place in her debut season in FIA Formula 4 British Championship in 2019, taking eighth-place finishes at Snetterton and Knockhill on the British Touring Car Championship support bill.

An eighth-place finish in the 2020 Formula 4 UAE Championship and 12 points finishes in British F4 followed, yielding a seat with Douglas in Britain’s premier single-seater series for 2021.

She took her best result of the season to date at Silverstone, starting third and holding on in the reverse-grid race to take fourth place and a handy haul of points, lifting her above her team-mate in the Drivers’ Standings.

Former World Junior Karting Champion Dexter Patterson joined Juffali in the Douglas camp, having been supported by the Sauber junior programme before stepping up to single-seaters.

And for good reason. In karts, the Scottish 17-year-old won the Formula Kart Stars Super Cadet series, Super One IAME Cadet British Championship and Kart Grand Prix Mini Max, alongside multiple national honours.

Like his team-mate, Patterson made a one-off appearance in UAE F4, also taking in 19 races in Italian Formula 4 in 2020.

He took his first points, and first podium, in British F3 in just his third race, taking a third-place finish in Race 3 at Brands Hatch.

He showed impressive pace early in the weekend at Silverstone, too, qualifying eighth and taking a sixth-place finish in Race 1 on Saturday.

The 2021 BRDC British Formula 3 Championship heads to Donington Park on 10/11 July, supporting the Intelligent Money British GT Championship.
